Their was barely enough wind to fly the kite.  Note the blue/right line is tight and how loose the red/left line is.

I was turning the kite hard to the right, but it just slooooly turned in the sky.

I low winds the new kite pilot has more time to think and get use to the kite.

Not to mention no getting dragged down the beach if things get out of hand.

Kiteboarding

November 19th, 2007 Free Rider Posted in Kiteboarding | No Comments »

I’m into everything skyward and I heard about this kiteboarding thing. I figured I’d check it out so I went looking for information and learned that kiteboarding or kitesurfing are where you use a kite for your power and lift while riding a wakeboard.  It’s also done on land and  snow.  Now, I’ve skateboarded, snowboarded, surfed and wakeboarded. I’ve, also, flown stunt kites, hang glided, and skydived. Kiteboarding sounds right up my alley.I bought a trainer kite and video after speaking to an instructor who recommended learning how to handle the kite before taking a lesson. He said the students that come in there unprepared to handle the kite, spent less time in the water and more time on the land just learning the basics of kite flying. Once I got the basics down, I went and had professional lessons. Man, let me tell you that was awesome! It didn’t take long to learn how to launch the kite and, well, the wakeboarding just came naturally.

Now I’m addicted to the sport and look forward to working on new skills. If you want to give it a try, look around your area to see where everyone’s hanging out, and ask around to find the best instructor.  A school with lots of kites and watercrafts so you spend less time floating around, would be the best choice.  Some run camps which will greatly speed up your acquiring new skills.

Flight Simulators for Remote Control Training

November 16th, 2007 Free Rider Posted in Flight Simulator | No Comments »

I love anything and everything to do with flight so when my son turned two I convinced my spouse that it was time to buy a flight simulator for our home computer so he could start working on his hand eye coordination.  It was important to get one that was very realistic and imitated  how a model airplane reacts in the real world.  We started with a Real Flight R/C Flight Simulator by Great Planes. The program takes into account the physics and aerodynamics involved in flight and does a fairly good job simulating at how a plane behaves in a stall.  Though it is fairly pricey, it will save you many times its price in not damaging your aircraft.  This simulator also has helicoptor training.
